A practical employee benefit

Primary care access your employees can actually use

Employees often delay routine care when appointments are difficult to obtain or costs are unclear. An employer-sponsored Firebird membership gives enrolled employees an ongoing primary care relationship with Dr. Mark Hagen, DO in Worthington.

Easier access

Members can use office visits plus direct communication options such as phone, text, secure messaging, and telehealth when clinically appropriate.

Predictable primary care

A recurring membership fee covers the primary care services included in the membership, making the benefit easier for an employer and employee to understand.

A local physician relationship

Employees receive ongoing family medicine care from Dr. Hagen rather than relying only on episodic urgent care or virtual encounters.

DPC and insurance

DPC is not health insurance

Direct primary care handles routine and ongoing primary care. Employees should still have appropriate coverage for hospitalization, emergencies, surgery, specialty care, and other major medical expenses.

Beginning in 2026, federal law also allows otherwise eligible individuals enrolled in certain qualifying direct primary care arrangements to remain eligible to contribute to an HSA. Whether a particular arrangement qualifies depends on federal requirements, including the services and applicable fee limits.

Flexible for small employers

Several ways to offer Firebird DPC

Employer-sponsored

The business can pay the membership fee for eligible employees as an employee health benefit.

Defined contribution

An employer can decide on a set contribution toward eligible employee memberships, subject to the employer's benefit and tax structure.

Voluntary access

Businesses can introduce employees to Firebird DPC even when the company is not paying the full membership cost.

For employers: DPC benefit design, tax treatment, HSA compatibility, and interaction with other health benefits can depend on the specific arrangement. Employers should review their plan design with their benefits or tax adviser.

Why primary care access matters

A benefit focused on access—not promises about savings

Your flyer has a strong employer message, but this page deliberately avoids guaranteeing that DPC will save every business money, eliminate absenteeism, or make every employee healthier. Those outcomes depend on the workforce, benefit design, utilization, and other coverage. Firebird's employer offering is built around something concrete: making routine primary care easier to reach and easier to understand.
